Let's have fun with an orange

It's raining a lot, the sky is dark, I think lightening will soon begin.
So I decide to stay indoors for the sake of the dogs.
Inspired a bit from Masterchef, where they cook for instance a potatoes in 100 different ways, I want to see how much I can get out of an orange.

First I wash the orange with a hard brush and soap to get any toxins that the orange may have been sprayed with, off the zest.

I peel off the zest with a potato peeler, trying to make it as thin as possible, without breaking the zest.

I use a sharp knife to scrape off any white stuff off the zest, it tastes very bitter, I don't want that for my dishes.

I want to use the zest later in the year, to make candied orange zest for christmas.

The zest I often also use to make "orange sugar" to sprinkle on top of desserts etc.

For later use, just put freeze the zest. If you want to make candied orange zest, you want to collect a lot anyway.

Now I just enjoy the orange in any way I wish to, piling up in vitamin C inside.

The leftoversm the white bitter stuff, goes into the compost.

I got an orange with almost no seeds, and the few it contained, was unusually small. I planted them in moist dirt immidiately, but I have to be honest... I think I need another orange, if I want to make an orange tree.

As you see, you can use everything for a good purpose, as longe as you have the time, desire, interest and imagination to do it.
Have fun!
